Day 4 - Detroit

Monday, July 6th. We're glad to be back in the USA! For some reason the border patrol thought we looked suspicious, so they decided to search the trusty Honda Pilot at customs. Thankfully, we weren't smuggling cocaine or refugees this time. It's good to be home...

Shockingly, downtown Detroit was actually pretty nice. The section we saw didn't live up to the stereotype of a "dying city". Instead, quite a few of the skyscrapers looked new, especially the GM building, Comerica Park and Ford Field . We went straight into downtown to get tickets for tonight's Tigers/Royals game. The cheap seats were only $5. It's really astonishing that a new ballpark would sell tickets for $5. This gives me an even better reason to continue my boycott of the new Yankee Stadium and their $200 seats. Even the Tri-city Valley Cats charge $10 per seat. This was quite the deal. Here are some pictures from around the stadium area:

I convinced Michelle to sneak down to the 1st level during batting practice. We got lucky because we were able to stay down by the field for the entire game. These were fantastic seats, especially since we paid $5! This was my 7th stadium and this park is #2 on my list, behind only Camden Yards.

Final Score: Royals 4, Tigers 3. Notable moments: 4 solo home runs; Galarraga dominated with 7 strikeouts; Soria got the save

  1. Great game to see. I had Galarraga going for me tonight. Nothing better than $5 1st level seats.
